it's the moon and stars

Snapshot:

One and Two are still sleeping, as befits their exalted status as teen and almost-teen.

Three is sitting at the "study table" in the corner of the family room, reading a Captain Underpants book which she is holding up with one hand. In the other hand she's holding a piece of paper which sometimes comes perilously close to Five's eye. The paper is helping him refrain from peeking at the Braille book he's reading. Braille is hard, and this book has huge print, which he can read, and pictures, which could also help. But he has Goals, and so he's manfully plowing through each page before peeking.

Four is playing Gameboy on the little red couch.

Six is strumming tunelessly (but not in his mind) on the junior guitar which was one of Five's birthday presents but which he (Five) is generously letting him (Six) play. He is on his second song, "Walls and doors, bad guys again, walls and doors, bad guys again" (repeat 6,000 times). His first song of the day was "It's the moon and stars, it's the moon and stars, it's the moon and stars" (repeat 10,000 times).

It's a wonderful Saturday morning here on my little planet.

I adore your blog! You have the most awesome family! Are you DTC for lucky number Seven yet?

I love the way you call your kids by number in the blog, too. Do you ever slip up and do it in real life (Four! Time for dinner!)? It always makes me think of the Eric Carle book Dream Snow, in which the farmer has a horse, a cow, a pig, a sheep, and a rooster and names them and calls them One, Two, Three, Four, and Five.

Please to hear that "five" is complying with your wish that he develop his Braille skills. Hopefully the school is listening as well?

Marny, SpEd teacher, CHIWaitingKids member, single, adoptive mom wannabe but the timing isn't right yet, and dedicated fan of your blog!

Yes, I've called each one of them by every other name and number in the house. It happens pretty much every day....they think it's funny, mostly.

The Braille saga is an ongoing one. For right now they are on it, but it's been a bit uphill to date--with all good intentions on both sides. I don't know WHAT my life would be like w/o Yahoo lists!

I hadn't heard of that Carle book (I thought I owned them all)--thanks! Off to amazon.com this very minute!

Oh--not DTC yet. I'm not the best paper chaser in the world, I'm afraid.

Thanks for reading and for commenting!
